This project is an attempt to provide an alternative to annual monoculture farming. Instead we focus to establish perennial polyculture agroecosystems that more closely mimic the pre-industrial native biomes of temperate North America. More specifically we are establishing agricultural systems resembling savanna ecosystems by utilizing USDA supported Agroforestry practices such as ally-cropping, windbreaks, forest farming, & silvopasture. This will allow for the collection of more sunlight due to the increased photosynthetic surface area of the landscape through the incorporation of tree crops, bushes, vines, root crops, grasses, and forbs.
• Design a scalable polyculture system and establish demonstration sites.
• Demonstrate positive ecological and sociological impact of polyculture farms
• Engage in community education and outreach
