During last week's 3rd Stinner Summit at Malabar Farm, I had the opportunity to present a set of "working hypotheses" I draw upon when developing organization design strategies for local economies. Developing business cases is a principal goal of the first year of this project. Recent posts on this site have intended to prepare the Leadership Council to develop these businesses and/or to link with potential developers.
As Stu Cordell points out in his summary of the Ag-Bio Cluster Leadership Council meeting on October 12th, the main focus was on the development of business cases. To make sure ABCLC members shared a common understanding about what is a business case and what are the necessary elements that comprise it, the terms "business model" and "business case" were defined. In addition, a working example about these terms based on a local food systems project underway in the Linden neighborhood in Columbus, OH was presented.
My previous post, Start with a Business Model to Build a Business Case, provided a foundation upon which to build a solid business case that can withstand a rigorous business, project, or proposal planning process, if warranted.
