Body:
This group is focused on building the local food system within Erie County around organic principled cooperatives and community supported agriculture (CSA).
There will be an initiation of several Erie Wire information campaigns meant to empower the community in order to achieve food & economic sovereignty.
Discussion Boards
- For example: The discussion of certification is inevitably a concern for the food system. Often business, growers and restaurants find themselves forced into becoming certified in order to secure the value of their efforts and broaden their market. This is something we want to discuss. Is it necessary to be certified? Does certification lead to risks in price reduction and brand consolidation? Is independent certifications drawn out by individual communities stronger than the entitlement of OEFFA or USDA certified products?
- We feel these questions are inherent to building a local food systems "economic sovereignty". This is only an example, but we ask those interested to express their concerns and opinions.
