Food System Logistics Biomimicry - Ant Colony Optimization

Casey Hoy's picture

I was telling Kari Moore about this biomimicry-based technique for optimizing transportation routes, and figured the rest of this group might be interested as well, so I'm posting here rather than just emailing Kari.  Most of the work so far has been done in Europe, but we do have some OSU Fisher School of Business faculty who are beginning to work with this algorithm.

The following project was selected at this year's Stinner Summit.  This group will be used to help networking, collaboration and communication on the project.  Hope you'll be able to assist with this great project in some way.

No Empty Trucks (Supported with $300 in Stinner Endowment funds plus multiple commitments of additional capitals)

Coordinate regional food delivery trucks to increase systematic

and community economic efficiency.

No Empty Trucks Project

I'm just checking in on the "No Empty Trucks" project proposed at the 6th Annual Stinner Summit.  Nathan Hilbert has offered to be a point person on this project and because he's right here in our office, the $300 awarded to the project is accessible to him.  Let us know what the status and plans are and if we can help in some way we'll try to make it happen.

Best wishes for your work,

Casey

I just spoke with Lisa Hamler-Fugitt from Second Harvest to learn more about how we can ensure the growing local/regional food movement doesn't leave the most food insecure folks in the dust and she directed me to the Ohio Second Harvest Food Bank Agricultural Clearance program. Here's the website that tells more and who to contact should you have a surplus of nutritious food in your field.

More Grant Support Awarded to the Appalachian Staple Food Project

AppStaple's picture

We just received word from the Ohio Farm Bureau Foundation that we will be receiving another 3 thousand dollars from them for the Staple Foods Project in Southeastern Ohio.

This support will be used to help in the post-harvest phases (storing, dehulling, milling, packing, labeling, etc.) for the crop that will produced and harvested on Kip and Becky Rondy's Green Edge Organic Gardens in Amesville Ohio (OLFSC members), in 2009, with the support of Stinner Endowment funding.
