Hi All,

There is a unique opportunity to attend the upcoming Second Ecological Landscaping Conference from December 1-3, 2009 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Cleveland, Ohio.  The conference theme is "Ecological Landscaping for enhanced self-reliance and resilience of cities."  The objective of this conference is to provide a forum for scientists, engineers, city planners, natural resource managers, landscapers, urban farmers, public policy experts and others to discuss the complex issues surrounding the design and management of urbanized landscapes. This conference will focus on integrating principles of ecological science into guidelines for designing and managing urbanized landscapes to enhance self-reliance and resilience of cities and implementing those guidelines through development of practices and policies that can be adopted by homeowners, landscape managers and city governments. Description of the conference theme and additional information about the objectives, invited participants, tentative schedule, and expected outcomes of this conference are provided at the web at

The first half of the conference will be devoted to broader issues around urban ecology, local self-reliance and resilience, building sustainable communities, neighborhood revitalization, stormwater management, urban parks, environmental health, and energy.  The second half will be devoted to vacant land development, urban food production, processing and marketing, community gardening, youth involvement, urban food deserts and food insecurity, nutrition, and physical and mental health.

You are welcome to attend the entire conference or register for any specific day.  The afternoon on December 3, 2009 (the last day of the conference) will be a free session for anyone interested in urban/local food production, processing, and marketing, vacant lot utilization, and neighborhood revitalization.  There will be a panel discussion and breakout sessions to identify critical needs and common themes to be addressed in a large USDA Specialty Crops Initiative Grant Proposal on Urban Agriculture that will be then developed and subsequently submitted. Therefore, it is also an opportunity for you to become a participant/stakeholder in this grant proposal.

We hope that you are able to join us for this ground-breaking conference because we believe that you will bring vital and unique perspectives to the dialogue about the ecology and sustainability of urban ecosystems. If you have any questions, comments or concerns about this conference or your participation, please do not hesitate to contact me.  On behalf of Center for Urban Environment and Economic Development (CUEED) and Urban Landscape Ecology Program (ULEP) of the Ohio State University, I thank you for your consideration of this invitation and look forward to hearing from you soon.

Can you offer more details about the types of equipment you represent?  Are you referring to core aeration machines for turf?  How does an agricultural aerator differ?
