Ideas from meeting

After meeting with the New Harvest Cafe on curriculuar initiatives and next steps, I have made some interesting connections with students interested in farming through Growing America. These students have begun to plan a perennial garden/permiculture system in the front of Linden McKinley. This site will be a great first step while construction begins on the new school and can have a small group of students lead the way into this new program being developed. Students like being on the ground floor of projects. As long as you let them know thier role is to pilot this thing they will help you make it better. We cannot expect to pilot anything or plan anything without the students voice. High school age students, not students already at college level. And, there is no reason to assume these students cannot make OSU course's work for them. CSCC is a good option for location but OSU is a short bus ride from there. Plus, with some of the new technologies like video conferencing, which Linden has two sets of, we can make any distance learning situation work for students in the Linden area.
